Huishan Zhang SS15: Runway meets Afternoon Tea

Huishan Zhang SS15 LFW
I want to share some more Fashion Week pictures with you, because the Huishan Zhang presentation was one of my favourite events of LFW, not just because of the beautiful designs, but also because it was the most relaxed and classy event I went to. It took place in the Mirror Room of the Rosewood Hotel in High Holborn, so imagine being led into a stunning room full of mirrors and vintage comfy furniture, where you are greeted with a lovely afternoon tea. They served tea and champagne before the runway show started which is probably my new favourite combination of drinks even thought it sounds a bit odd. After enjoying some yummy sandwiches and pastries and getting a bit of a rest, the runway show started.

The Huishan Zhang SS15 collection was inspired by the paintings of Fiona Rae, which invite the spectator into an abstract fantasy world, where you get lost in texture, light and colour. The garments looked very soft and free floating and suited the classy and vintage atmosphere in the room. Sharp, sparkly, colourful crystals formed stunning patterns and a contrast to the soft, powdery, feminine shades of the garments.

The rich textiles used, such as jacquard, cotton, shirting, coloured lace and organza, gave the collection an exquisite look and where draped and tailored impeccably. There was a smart use of volume by the designer and fringe in pastel colours added to some of the outfits gave them a great 3-dimensional look and texture.

The shoes where pointy, shiny had a t-strap and where presented with and without a thin heel. It was a nice touch to style some of the look with flats, as it gave the otherwise very chic and classic looks a more laid bag touch without taking away the lady like feel.

I have to be honest normally I would say I enjoy runway show more than presentation but this year I noticed again, that presentations can be the best of both worlds, like Huishan Zhang’s that incorporated a runway show into an afternoon tea event. This presentation was on Day 4 of LFW and I was already quite exhausted from the busy days before so I enjoyed being able to sit back relax and enjoy fashion.

Much love xxx
